No good offering you a glass of red wine before you go I suppose. I will just have to drink it myself :-D

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 16 Nov 2014 20:55

I'm sure it will be - just a precaution.

The Met office is saying that we are going to have the wettest winter for thirty years. I hope not because the flooding last year was dreadful

Sounds like everyone had a nice restful Sunday - except Linda's OH.

Lovely sunny morning and so cool. We had some rain yesterday and then strong winds blew the clouds away :-(

Hello, :-)

I've also had a restful Sunday - no work :-D

Tootled around all morning, then went to the village pub for lunch with Sue my neighbour and the lady who owns the village shop.
Very nice lunch.

Now watching a film "Warhorse"

Hi Berona

Vancouver is the only place in Canada, I believe, that has an elected Parks Board :-)

They are responsible for planning and running all parks, community centres, swimming pools, beaches, public gardens AND street trees, etc in the city ................. using money allotted to them by City Council.

Every municipality, no matter how large or small, has a School Board running the district's schools .................. in some places that will be just the city, as in Vancouver, in other places, the school district could include several small villages, and then they would each elect at least one School trustee.

The School Board is given money by the province to run the schools, pay teachers, buy equipment, AND do all maintenance, as well as planning for new schools.

The School Board hires the Schools Superintendent, who does the day to day work.

I think every place in Canada elects the Mayor separately from the City Councillors .................. it can be very interesting if he / she is of a different political ilk from most or all of the councillors :-D

Hello all. Sylvia... tyour election interested me. We have Council elections each (not sure) 3 or 4 years but we only vote for the Councillors. They elect the Mayor each year within themselves. We don't have a school board - the Dept of Eucation rules them although we have a "Parents and Citizens" association formed by local parents and interested locals - and Parks Committees are organised withi the ranks of local citizens although they are ultimately responsible to Council and tell the Council what they need - and Coujncil does the work required. They mostly attend to the use of the park - sporting bodies, etc.

Hello Sylvia,

I think the interest in our ancestors is in how and where they lived - though my tree is basically finished, I do need to do more research in order to put more meat on the bones, as it were.

Well done on doing your civic duty. I always do, even if it was a postal vote quite often.
Quite rightly, we can't grumble if we don't vote.
