That would make life so easy for me at the pumps.

Trouble is that we don't have any big petrol stations around here. They are mostly family run businesses .

Portugal looks nice :-)

I could travel by train

LindainHerriotCountry Report 26 Nov 2014 21:41

Yes we are watching it

All the pumps round here have a pay at the pump facility. You just get out, press the button to pay at the pump, put your card in, then fill your tank. We usually go into the office to pay, but it means that we can get petrol during the night if we wanted to

Tecwyn Report 26 Nov 2014 21:35

Are you watching Portillo?

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 26 Nov 2014 21:34

Apparently, though I've not seen one. There are petrol stations that have a card payment facility on one of the pumps.
You press a button, this signals to the man at the till. Then you pay with your pin number in the normal way.

I wish they had them around here.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 26 Nov 2014 21:30

You need to get to know your nearest garage, I am sure they would come out and do it for you, but then you would have to get out of the car to pay anyway

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 26 Nov 2014 21:28

We did have a garage like that here up until about six years ago.
The man, named Idris, would come out, fill the tank, wipe the windscreen, and offer to check the oil.

A service no longer to be enjoyed :-0

LindainHerriotCountry Report 26 Nov 2014 21:26

Silly Tec :-)

You need to find an old fashioned service station with a man who comes out and fills it for you, you must still have one in your village

Hello Sue, :-)

The surgeon was very nice. He said "If you are concerned, then I am concerned"
and said I was to contact him at any time.

Leaving the garden centre where I had lunch, I decided to fill the tank at the adjacent petrol station.
Hopping on one leg I struggled to get the hoze into the tank. I could hear the pump working, but it seemed to take forever, and I couldn't easily turn to look at the amount going in.
Thinking the tank must be nearly full by now, I struggled on my crutches to the shop to pay.
Getting to the till, the lady said "17p please" I asked again "17p please"
I had obviously been filling the tank with fresh air :-|
So, had to go all the way back to have another go - properly this time - and now it was nearly £50.
I did feel very silly indeed :-D

What have you done Tec

SueMaid Report 26 Nov 2014 21:13

I am so pleased Tec - I have been concerned as I know Linda has been.

I've met Linda's hairdresser - he's 95 but very good for his age :-D

What have you done :-0

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 26 Nov 2014 21:07

The same man has been cutting your hair for 35 years?

is he on a zimmer frame :-D

I did something very silly today :-0

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 26 Nov 2014 21:03

Brilliant news about your leg, you can get your new bed ordered now, but no more hopping around, you will sort the extra wheel chair out or else!!

My hairdresser is called Richard actually, he has been cutting my hair since 1979, not continuously of course :-D

I went shopping last week, well I went shopping today as well :-)

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 26 Nov 2014 20:53

I thought you had your hair cut last week - there can't be any left :-D.
or have they recruited a dishy hairdresser :-D called Maurice, or Raymonde :-D

I made it to Shrewsbury and back, in atrocious weather, particularly over the top.
Saw the surgeon, who did various tests, but reassured me that while my leg isn't brilliant, due to other factors, there is nothing to worry about at the moment. He didn't think it warranted a scan.
I am to contact him should there be any change.
So I am very pleased about that. It was worth going if only to put my mind at rest.

I just put plastic rain bonnet into the ebay search and there are dozens of them, I could have saved my shoe leather :-(

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 26 Nov 2014 09:55

You can still buy those plastic rain bonnets, I know because my mum used them. She went to the hairdressers every week for a wash and set, right until the very end. If it was raining when she came out of the shop, she would put one on so her hair was not spoiled before she got to the car.

The one she had wore out and I was dispatched to find a new one, not an easy job in this day and age, but I searched every shop in the area and eventually found one in a pound shop

Persephone Report 26 Nov 2014 01:21

I think my OH's aunt was obsessed with hair nets and powder puffs.. there was so so many in their unit when we were clearing it out. She did not have a plastic hair net but if they had been around I am sure she would have.

I had to do the minutes where I worked... I had had good practice when I was the secretary/treasurer at our local playcentre wen my youngest was little. We had one meeting with the City Council about the premises and the Mayor went to sleep.. I decided out of respect I should leave that occurrence out of the meeting.

OH was also secretary/treasurer for the children's primary school and the Church where they went to Sunday School... one woman at the church used to bring her little dog in her hand bag (long before Paris Hilton).. they finished up one meeting where someone said that was a very well behaved and quiet meeting and one woman who was a bit deaf said yes she has been very well behaved referring to the dog.
