~♥footie~angel♥~ Report 18 Jun 2009 20:22

I think so too, even though it had a negative impact on so many lives ~ but why?

RodGee

RodGee Report 18 Jun 2009 20:29

the progress that was made in machines and processes

~♥footie~angel♥~ Report 18 Jun 2009 20:30

UzziAndHerDogs

UzziAndHerDogs Report 18 Jun 2009 20:30

no matter what it had to be good a move forward

~♥footie~angel♥~

~♥footie~angel♥~ Report 18 Jun 2009 20:32

my thinking too without our ancesters going through it nothing would have improved ~ but was the cost too high?

RodGee

RodGee Report 18 Jun 2009 20:35

things changed for the better workconditions before were appaling and wages so low that families starved

~♥footie~angel♥~ Report 18 Jun 2009 20:38

RodGee Report 18 Jun 2009 20:40

Mel for them the cost was high, but that was the ruling then, for us well who knows.

Some countries still demand a life for a life etc. My belief is no matter where you come from if you violated that countries laws then you except their punishment. I don't agree with the fact that they will crush a childs arm for stealing bread. But if the UK had different laws then maybe there would not be the violence you see today

UzziAndHerDogs

UzziAndHerDogs Report 18 Jun 2009 20:43

a case of meeting ideals and thoughts

~♥footie~angel♥~ Report 18 Jun 2009 20:45

those are all good points ~ but are factory workers of today paid fairly for the job they do?

UzziAndHerDogs

UzziAndHerDogs Report 18 Jun 2009 20:53

Mel even today people are not paid a fair wage, they say the minimum wage is X but there are so many under that.

Check out average wage to fair wage

~♥footie~angel♥~ Report 18 Jun 2009 20:55

Ah so it could be argued {politely} that the industrial revolution did nothing or little to help a man {or lady} earn a fair days pay?

RodGee

RodGee Report 18 Jun 2009 20:57

completely different thing from what you said at start of thread
depends which factories you are meaning

~♥footie~angel♥~ Report 18 Jun 2009 21:03

Let's put it this way.

I believe that if I were working in a factory today ......on the minimum wage.......with all the health and safety laws .......and the European directives dictating how long I am allowed to work per shift I'd have a damn sight better standard of living than my ancestors would've had during the Industrial revolution. **(probably would without the euro directive and h&s but that's a dif debate lol)

Life was harder then....

It's not right or wrong it was just the way it was.xx

~♥footie~angel♥~ Report 18 Jun 2009 21:17

very true ~ we may have a better quality of life but are we any happier?
