I was watching the golf and reading. A very lazy day. The weather was wet and windy at Sandwich but it turned out sunny early evening.

Hello everyone, think the weather has spoiled the weekend for most people, am very glad I decided not to go on the roads, dont like my horses standing wet all night. Afternoon tea for anyone who is around, an assortment of sandwiches, scones with strawberry jam and fresh cream, a fruit cake and of course cups of tea, May you all enjoy what is left of the weekend, weather permitting, Stephen why not take a break, you have a good excuse with the rain. Morning all Heaving down here so I've just been out and moved all the pots from the porch into the open so they get some good old rain on them. As for me got a bit damp in the process too. No washing here today, I can always do the ironing from yesterday !!! Had a lovely meal last night. The friends went home around 11:00 so not too late. Will be reading and knitting again me thinks. Too wet to do anything else
Have a good day all and keep dry

morning everyone, glad you had a nice time in North Devon Marilyn :-) I enjoyed reading your thread Stephen. It's a bit grey here. Done my shopping. Going to watch the golf and read. The weather isn't that brilliant at Sandwich either. I also got the local paper. A woman got murdered round the corner from me. I think it was a domestic.

Morning my lovelies..
Have I been missed ????
Stevey.........I think you speak for every ex service man & police across the boarder. On a lighter note always wanted to tap a young lad on the shoulders and tell him he's got his cap on back to front and pull his trousers up ....them that's on their hips !!
My sisters grandson is going to fight this stupid war in Afghanistan in November....all of 19yrs !! ...and a baby on the way , he's not long been a baby himself, thats the wedding I'm going to on Monday .
Anyway nothing will change these wars as the Arabs live a life totally different life than the rest of the world and will never ever change...... Leave them alone I say !!
Now just to say I had a great time in North Devon , went to see my friend camping yesterday and had a right old giggle ....plenty of wine ,but made me feel a bit on the ill side , my fault had one too many glasses..LOL I'm OK now rehydrated myself before I went to bed last night.
Its a miserable day here and I have loads of washing to do, so I'm still going to do it as I do have a dryer, and Pete will be running around without underpants on ..LOL
Speak later ....

Stephen that's really good, I agree with every word of it............ especially the menopause bit.......... :-D :-D
Because of the menopause, I discovered what road-rage was........... as well as queue-rage, husband-rage and son-rage. HRT saved me from going to prison for murder!!
Dermot, you're mad................ but that's one of your best character traits.......... :-D :-D

Morning All !
YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU !
I am over 60 and the Armed Forces thinks I'm too old to track down terrorists. You can't be older than 42 to join the military. They've got the whole thing ass-backwards. Instead of sending 18-year olds off to fight, they ought to take us old guys. You shouldn't be able to join a military unit until you're at least 35. For starters, researchers say 18-year-olds think about sex every 10 seconds. Old guys only think about sex a couple of times a day, leaving us more than 28,000 additional seconds per day to concentrate on the enemy. Young guys haven't lived long enough to be cranky, and a cranky soldier is a dangerous soldier. 'My back hurts! I can't sleep, I'm tired and hungry.' We are impatient and maybe letting us kill some a**hole that desperately deserves it will make us feel better and shut us up for awhile. An 18-year-old doesn't even like to get up before 10am. Old guys always get up early to pee, so what the hell. Besides, like I said, I'm tired and can't sleep and since I'm already up, I may as well be up killing some fanatic. If captured we couldn't spill the beans because we'd forget where we put them In fact, name, rank, and serial number would be a real brainteaser Boot camp would be easier for old guys.. We're used to getting screamed and yelled at and we're used to soft food. They could lighten up on the obstacle course however. I've been in combat and never saw a single 20-foot wall with rope hanging over the side, nor did I ever do any pushups after completing basic training. Actually, the running part is kind of a waste of energy, too. I've never seen anyone outrun a bullet. An 18-year-old has the whole world ahead of him. He's still learning to shave, to start a conversation with a pretty girl. He still hasn't figured out that a baseball cap has a brim to shade his eyes, not the back of his head. These are all great reasons to keep our kids at home to learn a little more about life before sending them off into harm's way. Let us old guys track down those dirty rotten coward terrorists. The last thing an enemy would want to see is a couple million peeed off old f*rts with attitudes and automatic weapons, who know that their best years are already behind them. HEY!! How about recruiting Women over 50...in menopause!!! You think MEN have attitudes?? Ohhhhhhhhhhhh my God!!! If nothing else, put them on border patrol. They'll have it secured the first night!
Send this to all of your senior friends...it's in big type so they can read it.

Evening All !
Busy day over.....time to relax a bit......had my Tea and my coffee. :-) :-) :-)
Pat I have always had an interest in Society as it was in the period around 1750- 1900.
The Industrial Revolution and the growth of the Working Class coupled with the work of people like Seebohm Rowntree in creating and developing a Welfare Society. Fascinating stuff
A great book to read is Adam Smiths....A Wealth of Nations published in 1776. So relevant in todays world. Quote
On government…
It is the highest impertinence and presumption… in kings and ministers, to pretend to watch over the economy of private people, and to restrain their expense... They are themselves always, and without any exception, the greatest spendthrifts in the society. Let them look well after their own expense, and they may safely trust private people with theirs. If their own extravagance does not ruin the state, that of their subjects never will.
Gonna watch the Kennedys on the box. If I can sit quietly for an hour ;-) ;-) ;-)

Glad it's the week-end! I've just starting reading a book about society in 1850 London. It was a dramatise on BBC. the Crimson Petal and the White.
I wouldn't have made a good penguin. I don't like snow and ice.
