Rita, it's going to seem a long time - waiting for your results.

It's a shame about your son, I'm sure one of his daughters will help him though, well, I hope so.

How long did it take you to learn to iron your hubby's clothes without making a mistake then?......lol

Lady, Silent Witness was really good last night, bet I forget to watch it again tonight.

Marilyn, have you put those plants in a greenhouse or put then out in the cold? The shock will probably kill them if they're out in the cold.

Mo, how come you hadn't ironed shirts or trousers by the time you were 17? Am I the only person who was taught to iron (and do every other household chore) when I was a child?

What about you Shelly, did you learn to iron when you were a kid?

Forgot to say, Mo, don't get caught at Eddie's place before I even get there, keep out of site if you see him around.

What about this then.....the bl**dy Pheasants has plucked out my lovely plants that I so carefully planted.....so now no bird seeds tomorrow. !!

Pauline they looked hardy they are those plastic looking ground plants with pretty pink flowers .

I've hidden them now behind a very large pot .

I don't think Shelly learn' t how to Iron as she cant even sew ..LOL

But she's good at graves....LOL

Just had an Indian wish I hadn't I feel it has made me put on 3lbs ....
NO wine ....just water.

Well, you might as well wash it down with wine Marilyn.

Those plants must have looked too good to leave, you could have put the pheasants in a pie, don't you have a gun?

Edit: I'm off to do the dinner now.

I was taught ironing while at school we had a domestic sicene class and I came first every time. we were taught how to iron sheets and table clothes dresses and table napkins but never mens trousers or shirts. we did do under wear. but after a while I got use to his things for ironing and 32 months after I was married I had my daughter.
I got really good at ironing mens clothes after a while when my mum was at work I use to go in to her house and take her ironing to my house and do it all for her I thought it helped her out.I lived next door to her then .

My Son said his two daughters are going over to him at the weekend to do his washing and shopping one is coming up from Dorset for the weekend. and one of his sons is going there as well. His other son is in the Army and stationed up north at the moment waiting to go back to Afganistan.

Good Morning Linda
I slept well too tired not to with all this rushing about. people have had snow in parts of surrey I had white frost at 6 oclock and now sunshine wonder if it will last ?hope so.
So you are off out again to a meal lucky you I hope you have a nice time and dont eat the fatty foods plenty of food that are not high in calories eat but fatty NO.
Shelly I could not iron on a work sufice I would have trouble moving the clothes about as well as wondering if I was doing any damage to the work unit. Shelly do you every finish with these test you are doing ?

I am reading a book my nephew gave me for christmas "Len Goodman" it is his life story and it is extreremly entertaining he tells it exactly as it was when he was growing up in the East End.of London and how he became one of the Judges in "Strickly come Dancing " Martin brought it when he was over here at Christnas as he thought he would rather do that than bring me one from the Arlington USA where he lives

have a good day ladies.

Morning all, we've got loads of snow again. I'm glad it waited till Saturday, at least I didn't have to go out at 6am this morning and shovel it away to get the wheelchair out.

Linda, you have quite a good social life don't you? I'm jealous because I never get out at night!

Hope you enjoy the get together tonight and the wedding fair tomorrow.

Rita, I wasn't taught to iron at school, my mother taught me, in other words - she made me do the ironing.....lol

When I got married in my teens, I was pleased my mam had made me do housework from being young. At least I was able to do everything I needed to do.

Shelly, my man didn't use an ironing board either, she used the kitchen table, she thought ironing boards were too skinny.

Pauline went to an all girls school and we had a domestic science room with about four cookers and sinks etc in this room we were shown the ironing of curtains sheets and things like that we didnt have spray irons then only old ones. we were also tought to make our own floor and furniture polish with bees wax. the soap( being as the war was on ) we had to save all the tiny bits that you would say was no bigger than a thumb nail and they went into a wire basket to use , you had to swish the metal soap contiain around in the water so you could do the washing.
we had to clean a two bedroom flat belonging to the science class the paintwork the windows the floors everything, this falt was often use if there was an ari-raid on to teachers who could not get home. we were taught to bake cakes and small meals the meals we took home with us the small cakes were sold to the teachers for a 1 penny each.
those were the days

We had domestic science as well Rita. But we never did the ironing part.
It was always cooking. The number off things we made and took home was enormous. What went into the bin was enormous as well. Mum never thought it was good enough to eat. But I used to have a good feed up,on the way home from school, and only ever gave her a little off what I had made.
I used to enjoy the sewing lessons though. And really enjoyed doing embroidery. It did come in handy, when we first set up our first home.
Plenty off embroidered table cloths, and runners. Also chair backs etc.
My daughters also had lovely embroidered dresses. I also used to like doing shearing,at least thats what we called it.when you used shearing elastic and pull it together to make designs on the front off dresses and romper suits.

Hi Everyone,

Its lovely and sunny here in Devon, and I have been out in the garden and have done a lot of tiding up .

I went to prune my Rosemary bush and ended up chopping it all but one twig, it was a TREE !!
I so hated throwing all that lovely Rosemary away, I almost thought it might be worth me going to the nearest supermarket and giving it all away ..!!
But did not fancy being arrested inside Sainsbury or Morrisons Car park ! LOL

Grandkids are on their way , for dinner and the night ,I can tell I'm back to normal ...

Back later must get my washing in from line, Hubby has made me a cuppa.
now I will look at all my mails...

Hi Rita, I've just popped in before I go in the bath.

I can let you know if your attachments work.

Pauline $(*-*)$ Report 30 Jan 2010 16:53

I used to do smocking on my daughter's dresses as well. I used to be so proud of all the dresses I made her.

I wonder if the kids still learn things like that at school.
