Just phoned and Liz's other sister in law answered, she says Liz is barely conscious altho still hearing, and is in a lot of pain, despite pain relief and nurses there.
I wanted her to know I was thinking of her on her birthday in case her card hadn't arrived - I could have spoken to her as her s.i.l. would have taken the phone to her, but I was welling up as I spoke with Lorraine so knew I would only cry in Liz's ear and not help at all. I hope she doesn't continue to suffer, bless her, and can go to sleep soon with all her family that can get to her, around her.

Today is Liz's 59th birthday, hope she can have her cards read out to her and hear her visitors, then have a gentle sleep where her Mum comes to take her away from the pain and suffering.

I was the only one there when my best friend passed away.Igave her a kiss from her children who did not get there in time.
I hope your friend will pass away peacefully.She will remember her friend even if she doesn't see you again.Don't feel bad if you don't go.Just remember her as she was when well.

I know and understand how you are feeling at this moment and my heart goes out to you. I have been there, and know the feeling. It is better that you are not there with her at the end if it upsets you so much. Also your friend will want peace of mind to remember you as you are and you as she was, then to have the last moments of heartache together that will haunt you for the rest of your life.

You both know that you have loved each other and will always remember.
