I know if Iraq had invaded the UK I would be fighting tooth and nail to get them out. To many of them, and Afghans, and Irishmen, Argentinians (Falklands) and Spaniards (Gibraltar), the UK is in the wrong and so we may be. The victor writes the history and gets to call it legal, moral or whatever he chooses. The Nazi's honestly believed their cause was noble.

You question is really one of semantics that cannot be answered.

My son was the same SM....served in Iraq...but he was paid to do a job... he work for the government and thats where they required him to be....

All very grim! Ali was sentenced to death last year, however legal wrangling keeps him and other alive..

I was in Suez, in Cyprus, in Borneo, in Ireland. All maybe not as bad as iraq and Afghanistan -my son in the Falklands. As Hayley mentioned - paid by the government and that was my work and I did it. Legal or Illegal ??? As Eldrick - Legality is a Perception.

Good point the Oil!

OPEC keep oil prices high by not supplying to much of it.

I believe, and correct me if i am wrong that Iraq was one of the biggest oil producers on the planet.

If only the people of Iraq could move on and use the wealth to rebuild their country. Or should that read, if others would let the Iraqi people use the oil.....

and hopefully our petrol/diesel will be cheaper! but that's another story..

I have promised my son should he ever be called up for a war which is nothing to do with us-I will personally break both of his legs.I'm sick of this country getting involved in conflicts 'cause another country deems it right.I cannot imagine what people go through when their loved ones are dragged into these dangerous situations,it's inexcusable.

I'm not sure if the invasion of Iraq was illegal but I do think it was immoral in that the reasons given for invasion were not the true ones. There are other countries in similar conditions with equally tyrannical rulers but we don't bother about them.

I would put the Bay of Pigs as a much bigger crisis than Iran with the USA having a far less stable government than it has in the present day......and there has never been any period of time for over 100 years where the world has not either been in conflict or where there has been a threat of it.

So our grandchildren have no better or worse than we or our parents did.

It all needs to stay in perspective.

So when did you leave the happy crowd of matelots??
