RE your statement Ray about our troops defending Britain .
When was the last time they did that.
History tells us of campaigns and missions any where but Britain.
And yes i do realise because i'm old and maybe a bit wiser that they are paid by the government to do government work, but that does not mean they can't have an opinion. us

Likewise, some great times, some great mates, some sad times, still some great mates.. My 50 in 12 months time..The happiest ship - CORUNNA.the sadest ship LAYMOUR. The first ship PINCHER, the last ship ALBION. In between TENBY. The cushiest ships on loan to RFAs FORT DUQUESNE. FORT ROSALIE and a mad two months on the BROWN RANGER... Unfortunately not many shore stations, if any.....

With reference to what pablo said I and a lot of my friends think that George W had instructions from Daddy to finish what he chose not to the first time around.

Cynical maybe, but an awful of of justification was given for the invasion, very little of which was proven afterwards.

Just the opinion of a bunch of 50 - 65 year olds.

Eldrick, you seem to have a brilliant mind and be well read and you talk quite a lot of sense (not being sarcastic), I'm almost putting my arms up in surrender.. And I don't do that often. I;m enjoying your threads with interest. and i'm not grovelling..
All the best, John.....

I am Ex RAF served both in Falklands and Gulf (first time around).
Should have finished it off then (my own personal opinion). Many people have voiced the same sentiments. If they had finished the job in the first place then what has happened since the "BUSH & BLAIRE COALITION" would not be happening.
With reference to it being legal or not then I am not sure. Personally I believe that it was an illegal act and should not have happened, but, will George and Tony be brought to justice?.... I doubt it very much!!!

As stated am ex forces and went where I was ordered to go ....Government paid wages so had no choice in the matter.

Eldrick

Eldrick Report 17 May 2008 21:35

I would put the Bay of Pigs as a much bigger crisis than Iran with the USA having a far less stable government than it has in the present day......and there has never been any period of time for over 100 years where the world has not either been in conflict or where there has been a threat of it.

So our grandchildren have no better or worse than we or our parents did.

It all needs to stay in perspective.

Uggers Report 17 May 2008 21:23

I'm not sure if the invasion of Iraq was illegal but I do think it was immoral in that the reasons given for invasion were not the true ones. There are other countries in similar conditions with equally tyrannical rulers but we don't bother about them.
