I have never heard of that before..you learn something every day..why put mercury in hats..what is the rationelle?..to make them heavy?..to control temperature...? |

When rabbit fur was used to make the hats (i.e. felt), in order to make it mat and to soften the hairs, a solution of Mercury Nitrate ( i think thats what it was) was used to treat the pelts. The hatmakers breathed it in and it affected their brains. |

I find that so intriguing..something that you hear as a term.."mad as hatters"..and that is reason why..because of the mercury..Mmmm... |
