Not yet, hun, still got me fingers and toes crossed. The weekend was nice because I didn't have to fret about it, but now they're back at work the rest of this week will be hell until I hear. Driving me nuts.

I still think it is worth contacting someone to try and get the work done to suit you Liz. Shouldn't the council have an officer who is there to help disabled people, maybe you could get them on board.

Ann, she loves the new mushrooms that they're doing at heron glass but as she already has two sets...I think another might be going a bit far. There was something today that she said I could get her but I can't for the life of me remember what it was LOL. She collects fairies but really she pretty much has them coming out of her ears and can't display most of them LOL She really is a pain LOL.

I agree, it really is a pain and stupid that they won't allocate until the workmen have been in. Now, I haven't been actually in the flat but have looked through the windows. They've already stripped out the carpets and fitted wardrobe. So, the only thing I can think of is that it's bathroom and/or kitchen related. And as I have special needs for both, you'd think they'd do it the practical way. Still, what can you do...the council has their own way of doing things which usually take the most time and cost the most money LOL.

With regards the things I need, I'm lucky in that I do have a comfortable amount of savings so will able to get the things that I need without skinting myself. Not sure about decoration.

Keeping my fingers crossed too and I have to agree it is stupid not to offer it to you beforehand, especially if it will need to be adapted to your needs.

If you haven't done so already make a list of what you've got for the flat and another one of what you need. Then you can prioritise the more important things first such as a cooker over pics on the walls lol. Ask around to see if anyone has something you need that they don't use anymore, you can always replace it with new as you go along then.

Only just caught up with this. How incredibly stupid not to be able to allocate the flat because the workmen are off. Still got everything crossed for you Liz.

Does your Mum like ornaments? If she does and has somewhere to put them in the new place what about a nice ornament, does she collect anything in that line you can add to. Or what about Swarvsky crystal? Or maybe something from Heron Glass.

She doesn't like roses... she's a real funny beggar. I wanted something that would last and she doesn't want jewellery... I dunno... I'll come up with something.

My brother liked it a lot and he was great about it when I started blubbing. I had got him a st.christopher and it was just that when I'd spent so long looking for something and thinking hard for something he would be able to take back with him but that he could keep, I forgot that it was a muslim country and that they were more stringent about other's faiths than we are about ours here.

What about a tree or rose bush for your Mum as she obviously likes plants? The Compassion rose is a beauty, it smells lovely too, or find one with a relevant name linked to her age or name or something. Or a lovely planter with lots of bulbs in, you can buy some flowering now and plant them then they will die down again for next year, put a nice shrub in the middle?
What a shame your brother's present wasn't right, I hope he wasn't ungracious about it.
I used to try hard to get my brother and sister in law nice gifts at Christmas and they would buy my son some clothing item from M and S, he was only little, about 5 and would have liked toys not clothes! We would call them and say thanks on Christmas morning and they would say thanks for yours, we haven't opened the presents yet but I am sure it is nice, then you wouldn't hear any more from them, whether they liked the item etc
In the end I got fed up, I was spending too much on them as a single parent with not much money to spare, so I said one year would they mind if I stopped as my gifts were obviously not really wanted, and they could stop getting me things, but maybe they could just buy my son a little gift. They are loaded btw. The next year I got a calender and he got another shirt! Later on they started sending gift vouchers to me and a bag with wine, chocs, nice biscuits etc and money to my son. This year we just got a card, no explanation, except I know their dog was very ill and cost thousands to be put right!
Strange people. I don't think I have seen my brother for 2 years and my son saw him in a pub near my lad's flat and his uncle didn't even buy him a drink, tight git! So glad I can chose my friends, my family are rubbish.lol

I still have no idea what to get for my mum. The present for my brother was a disaster and I couldn't stop myself from crying (so emotional with all the stress). I'd give her money to buy something nice but she'd only spend it on the bungalow.

I don't think my uncle is ever likely to move again. But he does have the most fantastic view from his conservatory...and the shower from heaven en suite in the guest room ;-) Mind you, I did almost drown in that pool when I was a lot younger...family thought I was messing around.

I would think you could make contact with a local councillor - I spoke with ours last night but I have his phone number and email address and maybe you could find yours and just call and say you have a problem and would it be ok to email him as it is a bit urgent, tell him your email addy so he knows what to look out for and then he could be on the case when the council offices open. Would be worth a try!
Nice that you bro is getting a holiday - he will probably be glad to go back to work lol Nice that it all fits in with your Mum's 60th tho, save some energy for that party/meal.
Did you find something nice for your Mum's gift yet?
Try not to get too stressed about everything, you don't want to make yourself more unwell.
At least you have the chance of living with your uncle if all else fails, and maybe you could get him to move to somewhere with a pool again lol

I used to like the gold room in Debs, was nice to go up and relax with a coffee or hot chocolate, free too.

Liz, I know what you mean. We always go in their cafe as it's 10% off for card holders. I got a box of frerror rocher (sp?) the other week...don't even like them LOL.

Do you think I'd be able to find a councillor on a double bank holiday weekend? Besides, I doubt they would do anything, they're about as much use as a chocolate teapot unless it involves wasting hundreds of thousands on hair brained schemes.

Brother is being whisked straight off tomorrow on holiday for a week. Med cruise. Not particularly happy, he deserves a hol and it's the only way she won't have him doing jobs round the house the whole time. But when they get back he'll no doubt be running round again.

Mum turns 60 the day before he goes back so we're having a big family meal *whimpers in fear* 15 of us.

I'm so worked up it's ridiculous. Caught between planning and not. Ah well, my uncle has a spare room over in the North East if I need it. He did have his mil living with him but she just went into care. Pity he doesn't still live in the house with the pool LOL.

hi Liz, oh what a bummer! Can you not talk to a local councillor and ask him to intercede making the point that it would be good for you to have input into any work done there to suit your needs?

Sorry you have tired yourself out, your silly billy, but I can understand there is lots to do for your parents. Shame about the curtains but will save money if they are smaller.

Glad you got yourself something too, I only shop in Debs now if there are discounts for cardholders.

Are you having belated birthday celebrations for you brother this weekend? Hope you enjoy yourself if so. Will help make the time go faster. I fail to understand why the workmen being off for Easter stops the woman making the offer to you, as it would mean no one else could scoot in front of you - at least you would know where you stand and the work could still go ahead when they assess what is needed. So much flaming red tape!
I am dying to know if it is yours, so can only imagine how worked up you must be Liz.
