Thanks Ann, yes John died 1811 roof fall at pit, inquest held in Oldlands Oct.
Jane remarried about 1814 and became a naughty girl, transported 1820, we have all records from marriage up to today, but not before. will look at site.

If you can get to the site of the Bristol and Avon Family History society, they have a burial index and there is a John Lear Bitton on there.

Let me know how you get on. Do you have ancestry? My OH's family, or some of them come from south Gloucestershire. strange because we don't, found that out when we started researching.

Bitton, Oldland and Hanham are all in South Gloucestershire which comes under bristol records office.

Presumably Bath has its own records office.

Villages and towns.
Bath, Bitton, Oldland, Hanham, are the main of my search, I have John Lear b 1776, married Jane Ward c1777, married by Banns at St Mary's church Bitton, this is on official records, but we can find no trace of either before this time, which office would you say would be the best for enquires?

Glos is a big county, which part are you talking about? south Glos. Glos or Forest of dean? Any idea?

Yes, I think there was a muslim march in London, can't remember what it was about though.

Kim, probably the reason that Chat threads don't last is that there are far fewer people on the boards these days and most of us are split between two boards to keep them both going.
