Could, of course be coincidence but I just looked in my 'history' which someone just suggested.

The Hotel advert site was there and when I hovered over it to read the adress the 'thingy' came up and started scanning ??

I closed everything down but have just tried again and was able to copy the address.:

It appears I have been there 19 times over the past couple of days.?

I've just been reading this thread and when trying to get on page 2 my screen went blank and a Norton message appeared saying virus detected and stopped, I'm not computer literate and my hubby has his work files on this computer so will leave it till he gets in.

History also states that yesterday i had QUINQUECAHUE. Cookies I deleted just now are:
adrevolver
adtech
advertising
atdmt
imrworldwide
liveperson
mediaplex
No QUINQUECAHUE on todays history.
Apart from logging on to my bank yesterday morning, I had nothing else running except GR.
Just for your info if it helps.

Dee, suggest you do all the checks Errol has suggested and then install Firefox and the adblocker. It won't be perfect but stops the ads and should help stop these kind of attacks.

If you get the malware screen appear on a Mac, simply press cmd-shift-3. This will put a png file, called picture 1 (or some other number if 1 is already taken) on Desktop. Before sending it to Errol though, it could worth the few seconds it takes to open the screen grab in Preview (simply double click on the png icon) and save it as a jpeg.

Dee you need to find Errol's instructions re searching your hard drive. I will try and find them, unless someone beats me to it.

Dee,

run Search which you access from your Start menu.

In the window that opens set it to search all drives for all files and folders and type in PerformanceOptimizer (with a z and no space) to search for and see what it comes back with.

I've copied this from Errol's thread rather than bump it.

What were your problems trying to download firefox? I only did it yesterday and no problems (and I'm no expert)
