Hello,

I was wondering if anyone out there has any experience of searching for French ancestors. My friend's grandma was Emilienne Flahaut, born 16DEC1912 in Valenciennes, Nord, France. We are trying to find a birth record in order to get her mother's maiden name.

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

I think you still need to go to the local Department or local government.

According to Google quite a lot of them are now on-line at the various departments' archives.

You can also search on MyHeritage, on a free trial.

Malyon - The lady I'm looking for married an Englishman in London in 1932 and died 2000. It was her life prior to 1932 we are interested in. Thanks anyway.
