I will take the free trial on ancestry and see what I can find on the Redmiles and Fardells.

Thanks for the advice I never knew about the discount. I also appreciate all the help you've given me.

Here is the point I'm at now with the Jacksons
I found Mary J Redmile and then found out her parents were John Redmile and Frances Fardell. I found Frances on the 1851 census but not John nor did I find him on the 1861 census. John was born in Dec 1841 in Dyke, Lincs. From the census I have for Frances' parents William and Frances I've had trouble finding their marriage, their first child was born Jane in 1841 in Harlaxton, Lincs.

I have yet to complete what searches I can do on the Gells on the Richmond side.

I think the family born at Stonesby are cousins of my Mary J Redmile because here is Mary's father:

Name JOHN REDMILE
Age 29
Estimated Year of Birth 1842
Relationship to Head of Household HEAD
Occupation AGRICULTURAL LABOURER
Address Horbling
District Bourn, Aslackby
Parish
Administrative County Lincolnshire
Birth Place Dyke
Birth County LINCOLNSHIRE

see it's Dyke, Lincs as well. Frederick and John possible brothers perhaps.

Yes I've found her on census 1871:

Name MARY REDMILE
Age 4
Estimated Year of Birth 1867
Relationship to Head of Household DAUGHTER
Occupation SCHOLAR
Address Horbling
District Bourn, Aslackby
Parish
Administrative County Lincolnshire
Birth Place Spwxton
Birth County LEICESTERSHIRE

I don't think it's that one because she was married around 1889 because her first child was born in 1890.

Good advice, I was thinking about getting a sub on ancestry but wasn't sure.

It looks interesting though is it possible the birth place is wrong? or is Stonesby the district or something?

Never buy certs from anywhere online except from the official GRO site - some poor souls have been scammed and paid up to £50 for a £7 cert. Make a note of this addy as I dare say you will be using it a lot now. Also, get a sub to ancestry.co.uk - dont buy units on here or anywhere else, its far too expensive, the sub covers you 24/7 no extras and has lots more - get a free 14 day trial

Anyway in case you didnt note it - GRO online is:

The other thing Melanie, dont always expect details to be exact on census info, it just depends on who gave it and whether it was copied correctly - read the tips for newbies on Tips Board.

Yes I've seen that a while ago but didn't count it because it said Stonesby instead of Sproxton.

Welham is also the place where their second child George was born in 1892.

You can use GRO online - using the GRO ref from freebmd you just complete the info online and pay £7. Yes you do usually get a photocopy of the original unless its really a poor copy and they rewrite it but Ive only had that once in dozens of certs.

That's great Lost for Words, that definitely looks like her, I'll look into that further,

*Melanie* Report 19 Jan 2008 10:31

Ok, yes I understand that now.

Selina Richmond was born June 1880, I'm writing the application on GRO now.

Do you receive a photocopy of the original from GRO?

Driffield is not necessarily the place of marriage.
The registration district is Driffield.....which covers many places, including Middleton.

The Jackson family moved around a lot, so it's hard to determine the place exactly, but finding the birth certificate would work. The first Jackson child, John, was born in Great Grimsby.

I also looked for Richmond but the are many in the area because it's a local name. The certificate would work there too.

Thanks for your help. I think I will get the birth certificate. Gwyn the one you found looks possible middleton is only 9.4 miles from driffield.
