In the 1851 census I have John Strong born abt 1803 ish living at Redfield, Bath Rd Bristol. Living with him are his children James, John and Mary Ann. Elizabeth Hurtine and her children George and John are visitors. Both John and Elizabeth are widows.
In 1861 John is married to Betsy and George and John are Strong's. I think they must have married but cant find a marriage on bmd between 1851 & 1861. Has anyone time to see if they can find anything
Thanks
Marcelle

Ah, so you think Elizabeth Hurtine married him - yes? Will have a quick look.

No sign on freebmd - have you found her with that name in previous census?

There is a marriage Dec Qtr in Bristol 11 189 and there is one female missing.

Maybe someone will be able to check the full indexes to see if Elizabeth is the missing one.

Once again thanks for your help

Thank gawd for that, thought I was going loopy! So not 1803. Is that his brother, Robert, next door?

Not sure thats the right name for her - can we find anyone with that surname in a previous census or marriage?

Marcelle

Marcelle Report 17 Sep 2007 10:04

Yes its his brother and wife Sarah Ashman. I got John and Roberts birth when some one kindly checked the baptism records
