Find Ancestors

Thank you Sylvia for all that info on the Strands. I have got confussed. . On my tree I have Hans Strand born 1842 married to Ann Summers in 1865. Father of Hans is Andrew Strand... So he couldnt be born in 1846.... Sorry to bother you again..

NOTE:- that Andrew Strand was just one of several listed on the 1880 US Census born in Sweden, Norway, etc



............ so don't go claimimg him as yours!

Now, I am NOT saying this Andrew Strand is connected with yours ....... although he may be!!


But note where he was born, and where he says his mother and father were born!

I can tell you no more than this 'cos I don't have the subscription.



BUT SWEDEN seems to be the place, and therefore gives another hint that the UK is the wrong place to be looking for your Andrew Strand ........ always remembering that he might have been at sea whenever a census was being done in whatever country he comes from!

as I suggested Strand seems to be a Scandinavian name.

Andrew could be the anglicized form of Andreas, or some similar spelling

.......... try using the wild card symbol * when searching for him

ie, Andr* Stran*

This will find Andreas, Andrew, etc or Stand, Strand, Strans etc


It may be that you will not find him in the UK, but in Scandinavia or Europe.


The Mormon site (especially the IGI), family trees on rootsweb.com or ncestry, or even googling his name ....in Google put "andr* stran*". Usig the " " ensures that you will not be finding all the andr* and all the stran* whether they are connected or not!

Thanks for all the searching last night... Big help but still cant find Andrew Strand father of Hans. He was a Master Mariner.

There's no death for Hans so he must have died at sea. Could be he died before 1871.

If you look on the Mormon site ....... it seems as if most of the people with surname Strand come from Scandinavian countries.


Andrew could be the anglicized form of Andreas

You maybe should be looking to those countties in an attmept to find Hans Wenzel.

If he's a ship's steward then he might not be on the censuses.
