Constance/Mary This may be a long shot. The people I am looking for, the boundary line between Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire runs through their village of Ibstone. Would you be able to look for an Emmanuel Norris aged in his twenties and a Leah Cox of similar age on the 1841 census? Grateful for your offer of help. Kind Regards Sarah. |

Hello Constance Ihave contacted you before re my grandparents.Well i do have some more information ,The names where John Bryant i may have said James as i have found out he used his middle name and Thirza Barrett have obtained there marraige cert.they married at Sutton Courtney Church in Dec 1907 John aged 37 Thirza 23 ..Oh dear just realised Sutton Courtney was then in Berkshire, but i think that John may have been born in Oxfordshire .His father was also John and on the cert, he is down as a Farmer deceased. Understand if the info is not enough best wishes Val from Kent |

Val, Yes I remember your quest for Thirza and Glad you eventually found her and the marriage.I am sorry but Sutton Courtney is not included on any of my Oxon censuses.Have you any idea where James John was born?If he was born in 1870 in Oxon then he should be on the census for 1871.I would imagine it would have been somewhere fairly close to Sutton Courtney maybe towards Dorchester on Thames.I will have a browse in that area. Regards Mary |

Thanks Mary ,you did try before for me but it may well be under John Bryant , Thirza died in 1917 in Headington I am almost certain that he was born in Oxfordshire but if he was 37 when he married the age of his death must be wrong as i was always told he died in 1936 in Chippenham Wilts aged 72 that would only make him 66 but you can ,t rely on ages can you? Hope to hear from you soon Val from Kent |

Val Have had a look in the area I suggested and no John Barretts.Had a look on 1901 and only found one John Barrett in Oxfordshire who was a Farmer aged 71 living in Bloxham( the other end of the county)so about the right age to be James John's father.Looked him up on 1871 census index. He is at Bloxham aged 41 with Hannah E Barrett aged 36 and John A Barrett aged 2.Any possibility these are the right folks.Ihope they are not "red Herrings" Cannot think of anything else to try. Good luck Mary |

Val Sorry but you cannot email pages of the census,it is distributed by the Oxfordshire Family History Society and they have put a block on emailing pages on the disc. You can get a photocopy of the relevant page by quoting RG10 Folio84 Piece 1459.Their web site is www.ofhs.org.uk. I had a few spare 1837 credits but did not find JJ's death in 1936. Regards Mary |

Hi Mary, You very kindly did a lookup for me a while back, but was unable to find anything as i was a bit vague with details-sorry! Anyway, i sent for a birth certificate and that has given me the address for the family i'm looking for. Would be most grateful if you could look for it for me on the 1841/51 census. It is Friars Street, Oxford St Ebbe, Oxford. Should be William Dawson (head), Ann Dawson (wife) and Frances Amelia Dawson (Dau). Could be living with Ann's parents whose surname was West. Thanks, Pippa. |

Hi Mary, is Overthorpe, which is about a mile from Banbury on the 1851 census for Oxford. I know it is a bit of a long shot as it could be in Northamptonshire. I am looking for James and Hannah Wyatt aged abt 39 and 30, born Banbury, children Sarah Ann and George should be with them. Many thanks Ros. |

Hi Saz sorry but I could not find your Moss family in either Swinbrook or Ascott on the 1841 census and Shilton appears to be in Berkshire and therefore not on the Oxon census.I found a Moss family in Ascott on the 1851 census with James as Head but the wife is Mary,is it possible that Mary is a second wife as the eldest son is 25 and the wife is 33,so unlikely to be his Mum,there is also a gap of 7 years between a couple of the children(very unusual for those days). Would you like details of this family?? Let me know. Regards Mary |
