I have the 1851 Staffordshire census and am willing to do lookups. Covering mainly North Staffs - areas covered include: all of the Potteries as well as Leek, Newcastle under Lyme, Stone, Stafford, Burton on Trent, Uttoxeter and all surrounding areas. It is NOT name indexed so please give an address where possible or at least an area. Also as much detail as poss in the way of names/ages etc. Thanks Sam

He married in this area, raised his children in this area and his grandchildren were born in this area etc. my gg grandfather james roberts was born 1855 hartshill, so looking for a his parents. I know its a long shot, so not to worry if no names come up. thanks for the offer and for trying cheers :-)

May I request a look-up for Stafford itself please on 1851 census for Staffordshire? Hopefully living in Stafford. James SIMPSON, occup. cordwainer. Possibly in his 40s. + wife and possibly children at home. His wife could be Jane. Sorry I don't have any other info. Many thanks if you are able to look. I realise the info I have is very vague. Sam Report 23 Sep 2004 23:19

Hi Ken - sorry, I have searched Uttoxeter but am unable to find Charles Ward. Nichola - Haven't looked yet, will probably have alook tomorrow for ROBERTS. Barbara - again, sorry I was unable to find anything. i did check Stafford but not Stafford Jail, Workhouse or Hospital (these were very difficult to read). The only James Simpson I found was a fish monger aged 48. Shirley - Unfortunately my discs only cover North Staffs, they don't go down as far as Tipton or West Brom. Sam

Sam Report 26 Sep 2004 13:49

John - have found 2 Steel families in Gradbach, I have sent you a message. Nichola and Louise - I will look for Roberts later today and get back to you. I also have Roberts from Stoke on Trent in my tree, pity they are not related it would make life so much easier!! Sam

Sam

Sam Report 29 Sep 2004 22:32

Nichola - I have found a couple of families that could be ROBERTS in Hartshill (handwriting is rubbish and very hard to read!!) these are John, head, 62 / Mary, wife, 66/ Eliza, daughter, 17 - OR - John, 24, Head / Jane, 21, wife / William, son, 11 mths. They are listed net to each other on the census so possibly living next door and related? No addresses given, just Hartshill. If you want the image, let me have your email address. Louise - I have searched Burslem but can't find Reid Street. I have checked my A-Z and it is still there now (if it is the same one...) but in 1851 I can find the surrounding streets but not Reid Street. I'm going a bit cross eyed at the moment so will look again another day but at the moment I can't find it. Sorry. Sam

Hi Sam Not sure if you will be able to help on this one, but here goes...I am trying to find my 3xGreat Grandparents, Joseph & Mary Careless. On the 1841 census they were living at The Green, Darlaston (the one now in West Midlands). Ages 50 & 45 (rounded up), both born STS and Joseph shown as Labourer. Someone checked out the area around Darlaston on the 1851 for me but could not find them and I don't know where they went after 1841. I believe their son Joseph was baptised in Bilston in 1820. Not much to go on, I know, but any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks. Ann

Hi Michelle, No probs, I still have some of my family to find in Burslem so I can have a look to see if I can find yours at the same time. It's a very labourious task with no index so hopefully will find some time to have a look for you Sunday if that's ok. Sam

Hi Sam Could I request a look-up for Robert BRIAN, a butcher, in Longdon, Staffs. Don't have his family I'm afraid, but he should be married and may have children. Many thanks, Barbara

Sam

Sam Report 14 Jan 2005 23:44

Barbara, Should be no problem, where is Longdon though? My CD's only cover North Staffs but would be happy to do a lookup if I've got the right disc. Sam
