I've done a search for both of them on Family History Online 1851 census indexes. The list of what is available isn't easy to paste here, because it is written by county, rather than just ''all of the 1851 for XYZ counties''. You can access their database list without subscribing though, so you can see which counties are included by going to: http://www.familyhistoryonline.net/index/database/index.shtml There were no entries for Laetitia Pennell (any spelling of first name). There were two entries for Henry Pennell, one born in Devon and living in Liverpool (no age) and the other aged 15 and living in Berkshire. Best of Luck with this! BTW, with regard to the head being able to read and write, what I meant previously was that if the head of household filled in the form, yes, he would have no reason to exclude the baby, other than maybe not knowing what to put for her first name and so deciding to exclude her altogether. Another thing - I don't know how long before the census the forms were handed out (I think just a few days), but what if the householder didn't read the small print and filled in the form before the babe was born!! (OK - two weeks is just TOO long before, isn't it?) My rellies were visiting Bournemouth in 1861 and were also living in their parents home in Ozfordshire at the same time, so I guess that form was filled in on the wrong day?? Happy Hunting (sorry to ramble!) Sarah |

Hi Elaine, Glad Sarah mentioned Berks as I had completly forgot I had it. The Henry aged 15 could be connected to your family: Living at Hurley House, Hurley, seems some type of school as some are listed as pupils: Henry Pennell 15 nephew b St Pancras Head is Henry R Francis Wid 39, Barrister not practising at present, b St Marylebone Henry Francis has children, if you would like the details feel free to e mail me. Hope you find them! Best wishes Amanda |
