I have a marriage certificate for John Edward Moxom (misspelt Moxon) and Annie Chalk. John is stated as 22 on this cert. I have searched 1837online for his birth reg from 1879 to 1881 so that I can send off for certificate, but I can't find it. He was born in Bournemouth Dorset Hampshire area. Don't know what to do now. Any suggestions gratefully accepted. Lynne |

Thanks girls. That was the only one I could find as well. I don't know where to go from here. Any suggestions? I can't even refer back to death certificate as he died in America and can't find a record of his death either. Lynne |

I am going by the information on his marriage certificate which states his age as 22. His father William was deceased when they got married but is listed as a Laundryman. John is listed as Laundryman as well. |

There are no John Moxon/m's on the 1881, 1891 or 1901 census who were born 1875-1885 in Hampshire or Dorset. (Bournemouth was in Hampshire pre-1974) Merry |

Arthur Chalk was Annies father and a Gardener in 1902 and as 12 Shelley Road, Boscombe is where Annie married from I am assuming that was his address at the time. The odd thing is that their child Edmund John Moxom was born at 16 Shelley Road in 1907 which would suggest that she returned home for her confinement or they both lived at that address then. |

You could order that cert with a checking ref, his father's name being William. It would only cost you £3 if it proved to be the wrong one. Why are you convinced he was born in Bournemouth? Sam |

My father is still alive and knew him and told me he moved from Bournemouth to London as he worked for the Gaslight & Coke Company which was a shipping company and their Head Office was in London which is why future generations were born in London. I have tried searching Merchant Seaman records and can't find him either. I only found the marriage certificate through being able to find his wife and cross referencing. But you suggestion is a sound one and I will do that and see what happens, but it is SO frustrating. Lynne |
