James Hall, born c1827 in Bradford, native place listed on his convict record as Leicester, profession a miner in December 1848 was found guilty of highway robbery at York Assizes. Seems to have been held in prison before his departure to Van Diemen's Land or Tasmania in April 1852 per Pestongee Bomangee from Plymouth. His fellow highway robbers were James Jowett (27 years old in 1848) and Abraham Lightowler (38 years old in 1848.) Am hoping any of these three appear on the 1851 census as they were all sent to Tasmania in 1852. The big question being, were they all in the same prison? It might help me narrow down my own James Hall if the others were in prison with him Happy to assist with Tasmanian convicts in exchange. Kim in Tasmania :) |
