Find Ancestors

I have a death certificate for William George KIRBY, date 25.8.1980 Shows DOB as 2.7.1897 in Grays, Essex. Thought it would be easy to find a birth ref but cannot. Also cannot find him 1901, marriage cert shows father as William as well. Any help appreciated. Jenny

Just because he died in Greys he could have been born anywhere.....just wondering if a marriage cert would help. Do you know if he married and who ?.......the marriage cert would give you his fathers name which would make traking him down in 1901 a bit easier( you need some sort of checking point to know if the right chap is found in 1901 )......Esta

Jenny i know the area and what I supplied is as near as you can get., you might want to track his marriage certificate also to find his fathers name, do you know roughly when he married and her name? Carrie:)

I wonder if he was mistakenly registered as Kerby or Kerbey? Have you checked on the FREE BMD indexes on Ancestry they cover 1837 - 1983. Cheers, Horatia

Jenny I know you say the death cert gives his birthplace as Grays.....but that is because the person who was the 'informant' gave those details. Unless he or she had access to the birth cert, it could be that he/she was only relaying info passed down by someone else.......so there is room for error. The same applies to the date of birth.......... Reg

The births on Ancestry do not include JAS 1897.......I've looked on 1837. There is no birth registered in that quarter for William G Kirby ...........anywhere! Reg

Picking up on Reggie's tip then(thanks for checking 1837), is Plaistow anywhere near Grays as have found a family on 1901 all born Grays except the William who is shown as born Plaistow? Jenny
