Hi Jill, I am at a total loss with this English side of my family tree, all I know for sure is Thomas Collins was born in Monaghan in Ireland in 1841, he came to England between then and 1871 is the first census I have him in Durham where he married Mary Ann Duffy in 1866, it said on the marriage certificate his father was Owen Collins. I don't know if his parents, brothers or sisters came over to England with him. Betty

1851 - found a Thomas Collins in Warrington - lodging - shows as nephew of Bridget Collins (age 18). There are a lot of people from Ireland on the same page - wonder if he travelled over with his aunt? Jill

1861 has this entry Thomas Collins abt 1843 Ireland Boarder in Monkwearmouth Durham - he is a coal miner, lodging with family of Jane Coren born abt 1821 in Ireland. No other Collins family there.

Hi Jill, I have Thomas Collins in all the census back from 1901 to1871, before that he married a Mary Ann Duffy in 1866 in Durham. On the marriage certificate Thomas Collins was born 1841 in Ireland and his fathers name is Owen Collins, found out later the were from Monaghan in Ireland but never have found out when they came to England and if Owen the father ever came to England with the rest of the family. So was Thomas not connected at all? And was he born in 1841? Only, in 1851 I found Owen (age 20) and Bridget (age 18) lodging with a whole bunch of other people in Smithy Street, Bennington, Lancs. There is also a Thomas Owen (age 23) another lodger. Brother? Any help? Jill

OOOOps I think I have made a BIG mistake here!! Just got carried away at maybe finding my long lost Thomas!! If Briget the wife was born in 1841 then she can't be the mother of Thomas!!! Sorry everyone just got so excited there, lost it I think. Betty

Hi Reg, Sorry I know what you mean but I think their was an older child Thomas Collins born in Ireland before they came to England. He was born in Monaghan in 1841, I hope he is still with the family in either the 1851 or 1861 census because he married in 1866. Betty
