Sylvia, I think your best bet is to buy some credits for scotlands people & try to find the family on the census's, if you are lucky & William died after 1855 his death certificate will give you the name of both his parents. Georgina.

Hi Sylvia, Do you have this James Ross or William Ross parents names?? there are just too many of both these names born that year in Scotland. Or in James Ross then Williams father, if so do you have his mothers name. Maybe the people who searched this had BVRI discs Betty

On IGI there are 46 William Ross born in 1790, I don't know how many there will be on Scotlands people but without the area he was born in I don't have a chance of finding him. Does the marriage certificate say where he was born?? Betty

Hi Sylvia, Could be the marriage was not registered on Scotlands people these are just parish registers. Where did you find your information then. How do you know the date of the marriage? Betty
