Evidently she was on her honeymoon in Niagara Falls. That was 16 July and obit says they married 14 July 1946.

Charles R. Alpers

HOPEWELL JUNCTION - Charles Russell Alpers, 93, died on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at the New York State Veterans' Home at Montrose. He had been a resident of Ocala, FL for 25 years.

Born on June 22, 1920 in Whitestone, he was the son of the late Martin and Adelaide (Lohmann) Alpers. On July 14, 1946, he married Joan Shelton who survives at home.

Charles proudly served our country in the US Army during WW II. He was employed by Duratech Boat Manufacturing in Peekskill for over 20 years until his retirement in 1985. An avid bowler, he also enjoyed fishing and boating.

In addition to his wife Joan of 67 years, Charles is survived by his children and their spouses, Nancy and Tim Bila of Hopewell Junction, Barry and Corinne Alpers of Stormville, and Brian and Lucille Alpers of Hopewell Junction; his grandchildren, Jeffrey Yade and his fiancée Chelene Robinson, Gregory Yade, Danielle and Steven Lown, Jesse and Jessica Alpers, Melissa Alpers, Lyndsay and Frank LaVacca, Kaylynn Alpers, Lauren Alpers and her fiancé Justin Ponzini, and Keith Alpers; and his great-grandchildren, Lila, Hudson, and Noah.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 3-7 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 10 am at the funeral home with military honors. Entombment will be private at Ferncliff Cemetery.
