Thank you so much for this - yes, thank you, I have read the full article.

But if the marriage states his father as being John Poole, then this isn't the people I'm looking for.

Wth best wishes,

Peter

Re my post above, that's apparently not the right John Poole in 1841 & 1851.

In the first section on this page, he's still at Gillhead in 1843:

The info Gins found is not connected with the article you posted, as, one, the date is later than the newspaper article, and two, the article related to a civil action in Westmorland, and the trial was in a criminal court in Lancashire

On balance, one would have expected the press to mention if they were brothers........in view of the fact that one was taking action against the other

Have you actually read the complete article?

ArgyllGran Report 26 Dec 2014 22:46

According to the newspaper article, John Poole was an attorney living "in Ambleside". Mention is made of seeing the defendant at Gillhead.

I can't see him in the 1841 census, but here's a mention of him in 1832. Gillhead was the name of his house, at Bowness.

http://archive.spectator.co.uk/article/5th-may-1832/10/from-the-london-gazettes
BANKRUPTS:
COOPER, AGNES, Ambleside, Westmoreland, woollen-manufacturer. May 15, June 12: solicitors, Mr. Poole, Gillhead, near Bowness ; and Mr. Williamson, Gray's Inn Square.

The only John Poole, solicitor, whom I can see in the area, is living at Field Head House, Hawkshead, in 1851, and in Cartmel in 1841.
Hawkshead's not too far from Ambleside, but Catrmel's further away, so it's not him, unless he moved house between 1839 and 1841.

Hi thank you - I'm connected to TWO brothers with these names living in Carlisle in the early 1800s, but I'm not sure if it's these. Hmmm any way to confirm.

Ancestry is free until midnight, so, if you're quick, you can look for them yourself

Although how you will identify them is beyond me

If you know nothing about them, how would you know what to look for? and whether you'd found them?

Why have you picked on this article? Are you related to people named Poole?

Hi there - I am wanting to find out more about these two men and to see if they are related. I know nothing of them other than this newspaper notice but just curious really. Can they be found in the census?

Best wishes,

Peter
