John Burleigh's death, per SP:

1922 BURLEIGH JOHN LAUDER M 72 BLANTYRE /LANARK 624/00 0155

I was curious about the name Lauder, in the column headed "Other surnames", so spent some credits to see the image.

As follows:
John Burleigh, United Free Church minister, married to (1st) Marion Ann Braid, (2nd) Janet Hunter.
Died 28 October 1922, 9.30pm, at Abbeygreen Manse, Church Street, Blantyre.
No father listed.
Mother: Elizabeth Burleigh, widow of James Lauder, weaver, deceased.
Cause of death: malignant disease of stomach.
Informant: William McPheat, nephew, Laurel Villa, Larkhall.

So . . .
Elizabeth's marriage to James Lauder:
14/03/1840 BURLEY ELIZABETH JAMES LAUDER/FR1180 (FR1180) F LESMAHAGOW /LANARK 649/00 0050 0142

Birth of son James, John's brother:
1855 BURLEY JAMES M LESMAHAGOW /LANARK 649/00 0012

Presumably after James Lauder's death, she reverted to her maiden name, and had the two boys with other men.
I don't see John's birth, as either Lauder or Burleigh or variant.

Thank you Jacqueline and Cynthia, and others with later replies.. Sorry I was so vague. Wanted to find out if anyone interested in John Burleigh. I knew of Marion Braid, but interested that she had so many siblings. JB (1850-1922). I know most of his BMD and census information, also valuation rolls. One problem is who his father was. Not James Lauder, although he was married to Elizabeth (JB's mother). At least one source has another name, not very clear, but possibly Archibald Arnot - have found some of that name but none fit and it may have been a made-up name. Although I've been researching this family for some time, this is my first experience with this method.

Thank you Chris. I found gravestone in Blantyre. It had been vandalised but I and my cousin have had it repaired. It was erected for Marion Braid originally, then John Burleigh's name added later.

As James was illegitimate, it's unlikely that you will find his father's name.

Where did you find the name Archibald Arnot as a possible father?
