That's interesting Chris, certainly looks like him - wonder why he ended up in the wrokhouse when wife and family were still around. Still haven't found him prior to marriage though.

Wow!
I'm new to this, had help from Cynthia (Thank you). I didn't know you received answers this way, so thank you all for all the information. it's given me plenty to follow up on.
I know William Cornwell was a paper bag maker (my grand mother, Mary Anne Elizabeth) used to help him with the bags.
There was another Mary A E who died before my gran was born, she took on the same name.
I don't know anything about William's father or William's wife's family (Eliza Lawes). On her marriage cert to William it states her father as 'gentleman'.
Thank you all again, now I know how to view responses to my questions.
