Thank you Stuart, that has really made my day.

Yes, indeed it does say Bothel, no mistake on the original. Will put in a correction to FMP

Thank you Chris that is very good. By strange coincidence I have had a visitor this p.m. and mentioned this query. He rang his mother, who is into this lark and she came back with the same place.
All I need now is for some kind person to look up the original census image to see if it could be read as Bothal, when that is what you are looking for! It is between Morpeth and Ashington which I believe used to be a coal mining area :-

NICHOLSON, Robert Head Married M 57 1794 Coal Miner Bethel, Northumberland

Looking back through the posts I see that Robert c.1793 gives Bethel as his place of birth. Does anybody know where this is please? Bing thinks it is in America ??? but somewhere in Northumberland seems more likely. I am trying to find him being born in Family search.

Thank you Mel for noticing my picture. I only filled in my 'Profile' a few days ago.
My picture is of my fuchsia Lillian Annettes, grown by me from a cutting. This is another of my 'hobbies' and most absorbing. I currently have this autumn's cuttings growing from 53 of my 100+ fuchsia collection. Don't show too much interest or I will be sending you further pictures by way of G.R. attachments - lol

Is that a pic of a clematis in your garden?

Have to do some housework now.....Bah.....

Frances

Also in cities my experience is that 'Batches' can cover only a few years.

Frances

Frances Report 8 Nov 2012 11:36

Thank you Mel and Stuart. The reason I originally included children from different batches is that Newcastle would have had a number of different parishes and, from some previous experience I have found that families may move between parishes either for accomodation and/or christening during the years spread of a family. This is why I believe census confirmation is a help - short of possesing the family bible!
Moonlight flits were not unknown then!

Thanks for the reminder Potty. I have copied and pasted your comment to reinforce my suggestions to my neighbour when she next turns up to view my progress. I now have quite a number of certificate requests ......

My mistake I think but how about this one.

Potty Report 8 Nov 2012 11:09

I really think you need to get the 1843 marriage cert to confirm Ann's father - it is very easy to go back down the wrong line - been there done that!

Going by the batch numbers on the names you put up they are from different families.

Thank you Mel, your 1851 agrees with what I have on the Gray (Grey) side of the family. I am not sure where Robert Nicholson and Margaret Maling fit in?
