There appear to be two WW1 Service records for him on Ancestry. I haven't looked at them yet, but I would guess that as the documents give an 1878 that he left the Army and was recalled to serve in WW1. FMP have some Service records for pre-1913 but they would only be a duplicate of what is on Ancestry. |

John in 1911 - age 38 so YOB 1873/1873 - not 1856. All born in Cork. Where did you get Norah's maiden name from? Have you found their marriage?: |

Possible marriage - there is Norah Relihan on the same page. The marriage cert will give you their fathers' names: |

Geraldine, there are two Army Pension Records on Ancestry for John - one from 1887 to 1901 and the other for WW1. His father is named as James and the some of the children were born in Castletownroche. |

Having checked the Pension Records, that census is not your John as he was in South Africa from 8/06/1900 to 18/10/1901. He also served in the East Indies from 1889 - 1894. He left the Army in 1903. Was his occupation given as soldier on the 1902 marriage cert? |

Geraldine, do you have proof that the John b1873 was the son of James Fox and Julia Carey? Not likely that they would have two sons called John unless the 1866 one died. |
