Have you ruled out William H Nash being in WW1 he would still be of age.

This is Janice's post that I copied over, where they are still all together as Nash:
''William Henry
Annie
Emily Maud
Florence May
are at 1 Sarah's Buildings, Greenwich in 1930 as Nash.''

If Emily was estranged from Annie, how come your Father was brought up by Annie - they must have communicated?
Similarly, if she kept going back to them they were not estranged.

Just putting this marriage, as 1911 census says married 7 years:
Marriages Sep 1902
Haley Annie Greenwich 1d 2047
Nash William Henry Greenwich 1d 2047

William Henry's birth?
Births Sep 1874
Nash William Henry Greenwich 1d 847

1. It is not unusual for names to change through a child's history (or a family's one at that).

2. The theory that her mother remarried (whether or not it was official or bigamously) is a very possible reason for the change in name from Nash to Matthews

3. It is also not uncommon to see bride and groom shown as living at the same address ........... only they are not really living together! If the two live in different parishes, then Banns have to be read in both parishes. That costs money. Many people put that they lived at the same address to save the extra cost. So her address showing as the same as her groom is no real indication that that was in fact where she was living at that time.

4. Celebrating birthdays on the wrong date is also not unusual .............. we always celebrated my grandfather's birthday on Christmas Day. It was not until after he died that my uncle found a birth certificate that showed he was actually born on the 9th January.

I've assumed that his parents celebrated his birthday 2 weeks early, because then they would only have to buy one present.

Grandfather must have known ............. because he was in WW1, went overseas during that service, and his birth certificate was hidden in a drawer in the house. But he continued with the "fiction".

Maybe, in your case, the 13th April coincided with Easter????????
