The most likely suspect for Edward's birth is

so thought I'd try to find the marriages of Frank and Caroline's parents to see what the maiden names of their mothers are. Dawson and Owen sound as though they could be surnames used as middle names.

Interesting - on the 1911 Frank and caroline say they have been married for 15 years (which we know isn't true) and that they have had 8 children, 2 of whom have died.

So - is Frank the father of them all but they didn't marry until after no 3 was born, or have they lied on the 1911?

George Booth Burton was born June quarter 1899 so she didn't hang around for long before marrying again!!

Looks like this was a second marriage for Caroline.

You'll need to get Harold's birth cert to find out who his father was as it isn't Frank. The boys are 'stepsons' on the census.
