Her father's name and occupation should be on the marriage certificate to Thomas Broome so that is definitely the way to go.

The marriage in 1842 John Hale/Eliza Davis looks promising but think I will need to get the marriage cert for Thomas Broom/Eliza Hale in 1861 to be sure - hopefully it will give both her names (fingers crossed !)

It's not the 1851 census that Thelma has posted - she (Elizabeth) was born in Scotland

And the Hules one definitely has her born in Chelmsford Essex though I agree it looks like Hales rtaher than Hules.
