Sorry MarieCeleste I missed your last post. Yes, that is the correct census record. Unfortunately I don't know if he married. All my father was able to tell me was that he was in later life a roller or ice skater. I'm not sure if this was in a professional capacity. I believe he lived in the Brixton area of south east London in later life too. That's all I know I'm afraid.

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction. Sorry to be such an idiot but I still don't understand. You are saying that I should have resurrected the original post because it referred to the James Bradshaw family, albeit that I hadn't anticipated this being uncovered as part of the research by other members. What I don't understand is that if other parts of my family were also mentioned in the post, but not Bradshaw or Kalthoeber, I should also resurrect the original post for those. If I did that then the post would eventually become enormous. The other problem I would have is trying to remember that Bradshaw had become part of the original post, through a member who was helping me with the research on Sarah Beatrice Kalthoeber.
I'm not trying to be awkward about this, but am genuinely keen to understand how to proceed in future.

Could I ask for further help on this thread please? As I mentioned in the first part of this post James and Sarah had six children. One of the surviving children was James Charles Bradshaw, b 1882 in Newington, London. I have him in the 1891 and 1901 census records, but cannot find him in 1911. I know that he was alive after this date from family discussions. Any help gratefully received.

Ronald, when you start a thread using the "Add Topic" button on the front page there is a thread by Estelle from Genes called "Please Read Before Posting". Contained therein is the line "Please don't post about the same person or family twice as this can make extra work for the volunteer helpers."

The same is also included in the Help Clinic (above left with the star thingy).

In this particular instance James Bradshaw had already been posted about on the other thread so that's why I suggested it could have been added on there.

It must be another family as my James and Sarah were both born in 1857, so would only have been twelve at the time of his birth. Thanks for looking anyway.

The reference to the birth means he was born on 13/10/1869 but not baptised until 03/03/1880 /aged 11 ish I presume) the address was at the time of baptism

Added to this existing thread. I've now looked at the guidelines but cannot find any reference to one thread per family. Can you advise please as I need to know what it means so I don't make the same mistake again.

Ronald, I will indeed clarify. It can be very useful to us, the people actually doing the research to help you, to see as much info as possible. It helps us to cross reference and have as much background as possible, it also avoids researchers duplicating, whilst gathering background, what may already have been found.

Adding the request to the previous post certainly wouldn't have confused us at all. It doesn't matter what it started out as.

As you must be aware by now, the Genes Reunited board guidelines state one thread per family.

Thanks Tenerife Sun, but that must be a different family. What is the reference to a birth in 1869?

I'm not sure why you are suggesting this. I have many separate posts for my Kalthoeber research on GR. The one you have suggested started out as a request for Sarah Beatrice Kalthoeber and only through help from others did the census record showing James Bradshaw and family come up. I can't see a link between the two posts apart from that and I would have thought that it would have been confusing if I had added my current post on to the other post, if that is what you are suggesting. Could you please clarify?

The mother's name was Elizabeth Sarah Bradshaw, nee Kalthoeber. Based on the survivng children they would probably have been born in Southwark/Walworth (London or Surrey) and latterly in Tooting (Wandsworth) in south east London. Dates of birth could be any time between 1881, when James and Sarah married, and 1911
