Find Ancestors

Can you help me find who the parents of Margaret RIGG were. She died as Margarewt Stitt 21/1/1845 Castle Douglas age 24 (B1821) wife of Thomas STITT. I found this at Monu Inscriptions at Kirkchrist (The Stell). Their only child was Mary STITT who died 28/2/1849 age 5 years - only daughter of Thomas Stitt DRAPER.

There marriage looks like being 21/2/1842 Kirkcudbright - ref familysearch.org.

Kelton is the parish between Kirkcudbight and Castle Douglas.

NB In 1841, adult (15+) ages were supposed to be rounded down to a mult of 5.

How could she marry in Feb 1845 if she died in Jan 1845?

And that marriage date would also mean that the child was illegitimate

Thanks everyone - I thought I had this post on auto alert but did not get any. Heaps of information here which is very helpful and I will need to sort through it all. I am sure she is a relative but have not been able to find her parents. It is possible with the naming of her first child that she is the daughter of Thomas Rigg B1789 Kirkcudbright and Mary Webster B1785 Buittle. They married 1816 Kirkcudbright. Looks like I will need to go Scotspeople again to see what comes up there.

Thanks for the 1841 Census entry which I did have. I think this is Margaret's family but she is not at home in 1841. The reason I think there is an additional daughter missing in the census as the monumental inscription below stating 4th daughter. I think daughter Margaret is the one I am researching and she was staying at her Uncle William McClymont's house at Kelton Castle Douglas. Unfortunately I cannot view the census entry at findmypast to see if any other details on Margaret Rigg are written on the census. Would be helpful if it confirmed her as neice.

You would be able to view the census on Scotlandspeople but it wouldn't be worth spending the money on credits as the 1841 census didn't give relationships to the head of the household.

It may be worth looking at the original image of Margaret's marriage on Scotlandspeople as it may give her father's name. The information given on parish records varies from parish to parish. Some give more detail than others.
