Reggie has given you the possible birth for Mary.

As for people giving the wrong age on certificates it happens quite a lot on marriage certificates. My grandmother added 5 years to her age and my grandfather took 3 years off his age. This was because there was 19 years between them and lying made it seem like the difference was only 11 years.

However if the birth Reggie found is correct then she probably didn't lie after all.

I took Jessie Veitch from BrummieJans 1901and found her in 1911 with her same family. Her mother Mary came from Tarbert Ireland and this is the same place as it says for daughter Mary in the 1901

It might fit with the William above, re. the Irish births for his children?? Maybe?

I think it's too much of a coincidence that the Mary above in the 1911 census is working as a servant with Lena Guest who was a witness at the marriage.

I'd put money on it being Mary Ellen.

She possibly knocked a couple of years off her age on the marriage certificate because she was older than her husband.

The above is interesting Kath. I was about to post this, I would think the William from the 1881 above. He is a private in the marines. His wife and 3 oldest children were born in Ireland.
