It wasn't unknown to make up a fathers name to save face when marrying .kept them honourable with the in-laws !!

If her baptism only shows a mums name then it high,y likely she was illegitimate coupled with the fact that grandparents are looking after her , Mum may have been in live in domestic service.

She may not have been registered...There were no penalties to do so until 1875 ish

Can anyone help me to find a birth the the above who was my great grandmother. Christening has mother Sarah listed as parent, but have been unable to identify a birth. On the 1851 census she is listed with grandparents Richard and Esther and an aunt. It states Susannah granddau 1847 Tealby. I assumed maybe illegimate but on her marriage to Robert Etches in 1870 Southwell, Notts it states father Richard, bailiff. Can anyone help?? Thanks
