Having another look at the paper work my grandad left, now one bit it says my grt grt grt grand mother as her occupation is H.M military prison , now was she in prison for a crime or did she work in the prison, she was married to richard carter who was a watchman but i have no dates for any of them and would like to find out if they had any other children, again any help i am so greatful for . :-D

What was her name? Any guess as to when/where born?

You need to work back from that, bearing in mind you will have at least 8 ggggrandmothers on your father´s side of the family.

her name was sarah jane Bligdon, she was the mother to sarah mary jane carter who was married to thomas henry harcourt, sorry i have no dates.

Can't find a marriage of Sarah Bligdon to a Carter. Perhaps she was previously married? What was Mr. Carter;s first name?

Are we looking in England here as I can see nothing obvious at the moment?

Thank you all for the replies, im still a bit confused now as on one bit it says richard was a prison wardon then on another it says he was a convict, so sarah was not in prison but richard had somthing to do with the prison :-S :-S :-S

richard and sarah had a daughter called sarah mary jane carter that married thomas harcourt in 1898 i think and thomas harcourt could of been called thomas harcott and i think he was born in 1870, 45 abbey street east leicester .

I believe the 1901 census means that he was an engineman at a convict prison not that he was a convict. He was actually living at 50 Easton Rd., Portland.
