MarieCeleste Report 20 Dec 2011 21:07

So it looks like Jane Woodin was the daughter of Sarah Giles, who was the sister of his first wife Rosanna.

By law (but not by blood) Jane was his niece. No worse, I think, than cousins marrying.

Belinda, I'm not convinced that she was actually his niece, but perhaps his cousin?

Abel Woodin married Sarah Giles. Emmanuel married Rosanna Giles. Is that the connection?

Belinda

Belinda Report 20 Dec 2011 20:48

Oh God, so looking at the list given to me by Marie Celeste, it appears he should not of married his niece, This is becoming murkier bythe minute.
Its giving me a right flaming headache. Families, hey

Thanks prickly holly for the info on Jessie's marriage really useful.

Belinda.

Hi,
Thanks to everyone whose looked, and replied so quickly.

Emmanuels Mother maiden name was Price.

Sisters of Emmanuel
Jane married William Moore1877 droitwich
Sarah Ann married William Fowler
Jessie married George Thompson 1888 droitwich
( I think)

I think Emmanuel first wife may have been Rosanna Giles (m.1872)
Just wondering where the niece fits in.

PricklyHolly

PricklyHolly Report 20 Dec 2011 20:17

So in fact...........if she was the niece of Emmanuel's mother, they were possibly cousins.

Emmanuel is clearly down as head on 1881, but could Jane actually be his mother's niece?

What was his mum's maiden name? Who did his father's sisters marry (if any)?

A list of "forbidden" marriages:

PricklyHolly

Hmmm, well it clearly states "Niece" on the 1881 image.

Edit: I wonder if that was error on the part of the enumerator?
