His birth entry in the public searchable GRO birth index shows in both surnames Wood and Benson,as parents wasnt married at the time of registration,on proof of marriage any future applied for certificates would be written out as normal with---"formally"......

Looks like London could play a part with Eva.

Could this be John W Benson J/A/S 1943 mum nee Wood born Hackney Greater London.. So another London connection maybe.
It is written by hand at the bottom of the page and it says See D'46 whatever that means.
Even if someone wanted to order this birth I don't think it would be possible with that info.

she was born about 1912 died around 1984

There is an Eva W Wood born 1921 in Prestwich Lancs in 1921.making her 23/4 when she married.how old was she when she died?

Eva's son was called John Benson ,born July 1943 he was two and a half when my grandfather married his mum.

not sure .i know she died in belfast in 1984 have no contact with her daughters,sorry

Googled her address and there is a hotel in Blackpool called the Bourne.
Bearing in mind her job and place of birth for a John Wood mum nee Wood in Blackpool could there be a connection here.

A tree on Ancestry has the above Eva winifred 1901 with mum Winifred Agnes,it says Eva died 1911.

The Andrew J Wood born 1875 died in Cheshire,according to 1911 census he is in cheshire but born in Leith Edinborough.

Andrew J was a Wallpaper designer!
They had son John 1908/9.

Not him he married Marian freeman 1900,probate when he died left to Marian.

thank you to all who replied. I will endeavour to sort this out. Eva and William's son was called John and his birth date is July 1943. Their daughters said that their grandfather was Andrew and the family came from Lancashire. However I am really unsure. best regards, Hilary.

The Peggy Wood connection looks like a red herring! If you google her name, you will find she was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1892.

The fact the son was born in WW2 in Blackpool could be that she relocated due to the London Bombings. One of my sisters went to Colne in lancashire from SE london as an evacuee.

No he was the father, born two and a half years before , apparently His first wit had died (my mum's mother in june 1942, he was returning to north africa when he met Eva ! when he was on leave, she traced him through the salvation army!

Is she had a son John when she married your Grandfather, is it possible that she was married before.........or does it state she was a spinster on the marriage cert?
