Dickie2804 Report 22 Aug 2011 13:12

Hi,
On the censuses 1891-1911, my great great grandparents Alice 1861- 1926 and William Yeomans 1857 - 1920 of Chorlton Manchester children are listed but on the 1911 census it says that there are 12 children born of which 8 survived. Now all the children listed on the census's up til 1911 bar 1 (James) who was killed in WW1, all lived til marraige and beyond. These were Alice, Edith, Charles, James, William, Frances, May Mona & Elsie (my grandmother and the youngest of the 12) There is no record of any other children that I can find - does anyone know of a way I can trace these children that were born and didnt survive? Did they have to be registered back then? I dont know any of thier names. Any help would be really appreciated as I am at a loss to find them and I think thier burial site may uncover more info for me.
Thanks in advance of any help given
Dickie

look on FreeBMD for births and deaths for the area they lived in . Have you looked on earlier census to see if names are there that arent on the 1911.

Edit have just re read your enquiry and you say all on the census's are accounted for so the lost children must have been between . The only way is to trawl through the births and deaths and maybe buy some death certs, Children are recorded under occupation on the certs as son or daughter of and the fathers names. Depending how many you find it could prove costly.

I dont know if the local Records Office would be a better bet as you can give the fathers name as a check, depends though if they are an Office that does look ups.

Thanks for this. I did a trawlk through infant deaths and couldnt pinpoint as I didnt know thier ages etc. Thanks though I will try the local offices as you suggest using thier Fathers name. x

I know all these wouldn't have been Williams children --but it may give you some names to work with.

Dickie2804 Report 23 Aug 2011 14:16

Hi there, yes barbara you are following the right family - Those were the names of the children i listed in my original post. My great great grandparents are william and annie yeoman (nee hayward, spelt Haywood on the marraige reg). William Yeomans father and siblings were known as 'Yeomans'. Am at a loss to try and find the reason why he dropped the 's' from his surname. If you can help me find details on his parents, grandparents etc, I would be most grateful? I have all the census info you have listed, it was just accurate details of the 4 children they lost between 1886 & 1911. Also, are there any links to a Thomas Hughes around the yeomans or haywards as he is buried in thier grave and I dont know who this is.
Thanks also Mary for helping.
Best regards
Richard Miller

if you go to the site and click on details there is more information e.g age, relationship . I think it costs about £5 for credits

edit
to say I have changed the grave details for Robert Henry Hughes

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 30 Aug 2011 06:46

looking at that date for Robert Hughes, which is way after William John and Annie were interred, makes me wonder if it was just a matter of there being an grave that was not completely full, with no members of the family known, and a body needing a grave?

In other words, no connection between Robert Hughes and the Yeomans, other than he was buried in the grave.

That did, and does, happen!

Hi

Good find Quoy--I think this is the Robert Henry Hughes in the Yeoman grave
666

Burial Date Deceased Cemetery Grave Number Grave Details
>>>>>04/04/1923 Robert Henry Hughes Southern Cemetery UChurch of England 666

(if he was in "position 2" in the grave then he would have been burried between 1920 and 1926)

This is the other one in grave 1428
02/09/1977 Robert Henry Hughes Southern Cemetery MRoman Catholic 1428 View details

So Maybe the Birth and Death index for the Robert Henry burried with the Yeomans

Births Sep 1922
Hughes Robert H ----mothers maiden name- Madeley --Chorlton 8c 1424

Deaths Mar 1923

HUGHES Robert H --age 0 ---Chorlton 8c 1087

I may be totaly wrong on this, What do you think, as i can't seem to find a connection between the Hughes / Madeley and the Yeoman family ?
