Find Ancestors

Hi all,

I am trying to help a friend, find information on her great great grandmother Mary Kay c1826 Bury, Walmesly, Lancashire, mother Martha no father listed.

Mary married Wm Shepley shoemaker in 1854. On her wedding certificate, Martha Kay was listed as parent and also listed was a Tamer Kay spinster, witness.

Was Tamer a sister to Mary? cannot find any birth record.

I have found a marriage of a Tamar Kay & Samuel Coop Jun 1858 Bury 8c 419.

Can anyone find her on the Census?

Interesting, on the 1881 Census, of the above family, they were both born in Bury, Lancashire, address was Tottington Lower End. I do not know if Bury & Radcliffe are same area!

Sorry, I am not too hot on English geography.

Although relationships are given on the 1841 census, it looks like the mother of the Mary and Tamar on the census is Betty not Martha?

Sorry the above census is the wrong one. The Tamar you're looking for is this one I think. Still single in 1861.

I don't think this is the correct Mary or Tamar, as my friend's Mary was born 1826 where this one was born 1838.

Have just spoken to her, she says that there is a Martha & Tamer together on the 1861 Census, can you see them?

I also found the 1861 above with Martha and Tamer together -and Martha is unmarried

Thanks for your help Rootgatherer, now to try to find Mary, Tamer and Martha on the 1841 & 1851 Census

I just can't see any of them in 1841 or 1851! I have tried searching for Tamar born 1837 without entering a surname - just in case Martha was living with Tamar's father and using his surname but no luck I 'm afraid.

Have now found them altogether in 1851 wrongly transcribed as Hay
