sorry i think it could be the one but would have to see a cert to make sure.Mother in law do sure because she was always told he was called john but people can change their names. She would like to know if he married again and if she has any brothers and sisters so i will have to keep looking.

Gwen -you have not commented on my entry re Edward John Britten -do you not think it likely he is the one ? Lots of people use their middle name in preference their first name?

Just a thought and as one of my family was named John but always called Jack I found this:

The Wartime Memories Project - RAF Tarrant Rushton (Dorset)
Collecting, preserving and researching photographs and memories of RAF ... Jack Britten, and ?(knobby)Clarke who went to Broadstairs for his Honeymoon. ...

www.wartimememories.co.uk/airfields/tarrantrushton.ht...

Another route would be to trace the RAF bases near to where the marriage took place as it is unlikely that John Britten would have been free to travel and be absent from the base for any length of time in 1944. Some of the sites dedicated to the RAF in wartime do list the names of air and ground crew and there are often photographs:

RAF Stormy Down - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The former Royal Air Force Stormy Down, commonly known as RAF Stormy Down, ...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAF_Stormy_Down - 22k - Similar

Llandow - Royal Ordnance Factory Bridgend
Not situated near the ROF in Bridgend, R.A.F Llandow was only a stones throw away from Bridgend. Much remains of the fighter base, and over the next couple ...

That Edward John Britten died 1989 Jul Q Luton Beds aged 80 9 327
Would your grandmother know his birthday (day and Month?) -this one is given as 30/9/1908

There appear to be 3 children born Britten with MMS Richards
Teresa A b 1945 Sep Q Bridgend (?your grandmother)

and these which may be no connection
Jeffrey R Britten 1947 Mar Q Pontypridd
Jill C Britten b 1959 Dec Q Pontypridd

GillianMac

GillianMac Report 30 May 2011 13:03

There is an EDWARD John Britten b 1908 Dec Q Buckingham who would appear to be the Edward in the 1911 posted above with parents Eli and Mary Ann.The age stated on marriage is, you say 33, but this is not reliable and he may have reduced his age a bit if Kathleen was younger

If you have his service number you should have a look at the following site -

http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_records/raf.html

It will give you details of where to apply for his service records.
