I’m trying to identify exactly who the William Wilshaw is in my family tree. My Grandfather is Albert Duggan b 1905 in Four Crosses, Hatherton, Staffordshire the son of Mary Duggan b 1874 Kington, Herefordshire (who was a domestic servant in the Four Crosses area) and a William Wilshaw who, using the generation rule, was probably born circa 1880. The only thing that was known about William is that he was a serving soldier. From this I have made an assumption that he was probably in the South Staffordshire Regiment and could conceivably have been based at the Regimental Depot in Lichfield. A long shot I know but do you know if your William was a serving soldier around 1905 or did he have a brother, also called Albert, who was possibly also a serving soldier? |

As Albert was a Duggan ( his mother's surname) I guess there is no father named on his birth cert. |

So is Emily Duggan totally unrelated, just on the 1911 census as a fellow inmate? |

Patchem, Emily Duggan could be a sister. Alberts life initially makes very sad reading. Wayward young mother, unknown Father, workhouse. |

I think John Joseph may have been illegitimate by someone else given Albert was born on the 29th of the same month in the same year? William was certainly in Four Crosses on or around 29 Aug 1904! Could he have been in Belfast approx 25 days previous?! |
