I only have my relatives recolection as being 2 boys, as we all know, memories play tricks, so I cannot be certain that it was 2 boys. which is why I would love to find them on the 1911 census'

I have found a record of the birth of a Samuel Henry Hall Sept 1/4 1880 Vol 6b Page 568 in Wolverhampton which could possibly be Samuel.

Also, there is another record of a William Henry Hall in Mar 1/4 1909 W'ton. Perhaps this is their other son? named William after Violets father William Palmer and Henry being Samuel's middle name? - could someone look for a William Henry Hall on the 1911 census please? maybe this will shed some light as to why he wasn't with his mother or father?

Thank you

K

would you be able to email me a copy of the 1911 census which Violet is on please?

♥Deetortrainingnewfys♥ Report 11 Mar 2011 13:48

Do you think she had post natal depression, which is why she was in the workhouse with young Samuel?
I guess the other child was elsewhere? obviously not with its father. and is not with violet's parents. I wonder if the other child was with one of Violet's siblings or already in the cottage homes?

This has opened up so many more questions to be answered....what fun!

I have no idea of either of the son's names. my elderly relative couldn't remember them. and thank you for bringing that up again, I had overlooked the reference to a samuel age 1 on the 1911 census above.

What was the other son's name? Violet is listed as having had 2 in 1911 with both living

this gets more interesting by the minute. Violet Mary Matilda Lloyd's grandfather Richard Lloyd was born in Stanton Lacy. It seems that the Hall family also moved to Bilston/Wolverhampton area.

I have been trying to find Samuel's death. Obviously he was alive in 1911 and I know his 2 boys were in cottage homes, wonder why he didn't raise them? Violet didn't die until 1934, this is a long time after 1911 census? and there is no mention of the boys with their father in 1911???

ian. that must be him, address is same as marriage cert. his mother must have married previously as she is down as a widow. must have married her lodger.
Age on 1891 census is correct too.

what is intresting, is that Ann(e) was from Ludlow. which is the exact area of where Violets parents were from.

Thank you K
I will try and have a look at the records at the archives when I next go in.

I wonder why she was in the workhouse in 1911, she only married in 1908!
perhaps the birth of her boys? Perhaps samuel had died young too? why else would the boys go into cottage homes?

K, I think that could be her.
An elderly relative remembers that she had some kind of mental illness but thought she was in the workhouse at Stafford (not w'ton). He remembers she had two sons who were took into care "Cottage homes" not sure what happened to Samuel??

Would I be able to find out anything about her time in New Cross Hospital? Are there any records I could be looking at?
