Find Ancestors

Hi

Just wondered if anyone would mind trying to find some more information regarding one of my relatives, I have found him on the 1881 Census his name is Charles French aged 28 (born approx 1853) and was residing with Pheolis French his wife aged 29 (born approx 1852) he is shown as a Wood Chopper and she is shown as a Charwoman, I have found him on the census after 1881 but cannot find anything with regards to him and Pheolis prior to this date, ie: on a census or marriage, death etc.

Any help would be really appreciated

That's them on the census - I presume it is Phyllis but the original census document appears from the handwriting to confirm her name is Pheolis but I thought it was Phyllis to be honest.

Hi just had a quick scan - Charles French is my grandad, but Phylis (Pheolis) is not my nan, he married in 1887 to Emily Ricketts (marr cert confirmed him as a batchelor??)

Have previous census records for Charles prior to 1881 it is just that one that is stumping me.

This is where is gets confusing because I can find nothing with regards to my nan, Emily Ricketts other than the marriage cert and census records in her married name - I can find nothing for Emily or her dad Robert Ricketts - total mystery - BUT it appears that James George French who was Charles' brother appeared to marry maybe Emily's sister - as his wife's name is Ellen Ricketts (but cannot find a marriage cert for her to confirm what her dad's name is)
