I also checked the original parish entry, and certificate, as shown on ancestry .... just as Sue did.
AND confirmed that the name Leasley was a transcriber's error ...... as I said, I have sent in a note re the correct spelling
This is the entry from freebmd
Marriages Mar 1850 (>99%) Bass John Kensington 3 266 Burgess Harriet Kensington 3 266 Bushnell Emma Kensington 3 266 >>>>Grubb Eliza Kensington 3 266 >>>>Lewsley James Frederick Kensington 3 266 Milne Alexander Kensington 3 266 Morris Henry Kensington 3 266 Perry Rebecca Kensington 3 266
You will not see the quarter or year on the transcript image (I've just checked), because the year would have been on the very first page of the GRO volume from which this image has been taken, and the quarter might well have been either on that first page, or on an intervening page ...... and you cannot turn back to those pages.
You just have to trust that the transcribers transcribed the March 1850 correctly, as shown at the heading of the entry as I posted it above.

Hi Lynne The marriage I posted for James Frederick on the 27th of Jan 1850 is from the original Parish records. I have seen the marriage cert myself it is correct for those dates,as I said in a previuos post the marriage banns were read in three different years 1846 and 47 but they finally married in 1850.
If you pm me your email address I will send you the original marriage cert itself.
Edite I use Ancestry with all london Transcripts to search. Just click on my name to send me a PM(personal message Sue

Hi Sylvia,
I know I'll have to get the original cert to obtain the actual date. My comment re Free BMD is regarding the date / quarter and this will have to be resolved through checking the fiche copies of St Catherines Index. On the original transcript on FreeBMD there is no indication of what year / quarter etc (see black header accessed via clicking on glasses) on the record. and I cannot be assured therefore whether the marriage was in 1850 or any other year by checking Free BMD records.

You cannot see the exact date of the marriage (or of births or deaths) on freebmd ................ it just shows the quarter in which the event occurred
so March means a marriage between Jan 1 and March 31
June......... between April 1 and June 30
etc
you have to buy the actual certificate to find out the date, place etc

Hi everyone,
I am just a little confused re marriage date. The only record on FreeBMD indicates marriage of 1850 Kensington but no date is visible on the original transcript image. I cannot verify that this is the Actual date of the record.
Assuming these are the same people, do you know why there might be such a wide discrepancy in date?

WOW - Thanks for your research.
Sorry for delay in responding. Between time differences and problems with interent connection I was unable to respond earlier. It looks like you have broken through the brickwall!
You have the right family and yes John Lewsley (b.1804) married twice.
(1) Mary Holmes was spouse of first marriage. Offspring were James Frederick b.1826 m Eliza Grubb and John b.1828 m Sarah Short.
I descend from the second marriage. (2) Catherine Papworth - Have just looked at cert again James is listed dead and witnesses as you correctly stated. Susan, I do not have John (b.1804 ) baptism date.
They also later had three other children (Edward, 1847-1852, Mary Ann 1853-1854 and 'Arthur' 1855-1905). Have death dates for all children.
Dates given have confirmed info I found and given me heaps of information on baptismal dates and types of marriage. Thanks for the information re Mary Perrott. Is there any information re James (b. 1781) spouse?
