(the K A Chanter was Kate Amelia born 1884, cousin of Alice, her father was James Chanter)

Just been looking at an army record for an Elijah Turner born 1878.

Looks like he joined the army in 1891 giving his age as 13. Also - for some reason- a copy of his death cert 1946, ties in with above record. shows he was a retired railway labourer, informant K A Chanter. Must be a relative of his wife.

Thank you Marie Celeste, that is very useful. I don't know what happened to the wife, but I know she must have died by 1925. I might apply for the marriage certificate in order to find his parents.

I have investigated the Birmingham link, TootyFruity, but it does not add up with my great grandfathe unfortunatly. I think he will be from either London or the East of England. Thanks for looking though!
