thanks Derek. It is confusing about Elizabeth as Robert Brentley is the lodger (or step-dad?)! |

Hi all...for what its worth..the Tideswell Parish registers confirm the marriage of George Terry and Elizabeth Brentley 25.12.1851 at Tideswell ,both coming from Newhouses..so Flick's 1851 offering is possible....but that would have been about March/April 1851..and wouldn't she be a Brentley rather than a Stone???????? |

I was doing ok 'til i got to this point! Brentley - Stones and the missing Terrys. GR members helped me to track a William Terry who was in Derby Gaol at the time of the 1851 census for bigamy. Its easy to get side tracked! I've been trying to find his wife/wives and hoped if i could find some record of Georges' birth I might find out who his mum was ?! |

Side-tracking a bit.....I'll lay odds that this is Robert's son and family! |

I'm not sure but it seems elizabeth was called Stone but Robert Brentley was her step-father? And the only george terry i can find in the 1841 is a servant in Leics. Not certain its him though and cant find him at all in 1851? |

Ok..George Terry was not born..or at least he was not baptised in Tideswell...beware the IGI "submitted" entries..the degree of accuracy or indeed truth varies wildly....However..he did marry Elizabeth brentley at Tideswell..25.12.1851.........they are listed as both coming from an area called Newhouses......which is obviously in the area..but could be anywhere in the Tideswell/Buxton area |

If the 'submitted' info about his marriage is accurate........this is the freebmd record |

Occassionally the birth date is written in the baptism records but there were no certificates back then and it wasn't even compulsory to register children either. It was down to the individual churches to keep records of their congregation. |

The record you found is 'submitted', so must be viewed with catution. |
