I could only find one marriage in 1867 for a John Smith and Ann Forshaw, but she was born 1842 and he 1835. Her father was Robert Forshaw so that rules that one out.

Edit: - so close to the christening....

Gael FDU,

Leyland and Burscough are about 15 miles as the crow flies.

Henry was baptised at St John's Lathom, near Burscough on the 10th October 1847.

Thanks, Mike.

Can I give a short summary/update here of what I'm looking for on the 1861 census:

John Smith bc1828 Burscough living/married to Ann Smith (or Blackledge or Forshaw) bc1829 Burscough.

Probably in the same household would be Henry Blackledge bc1847 Burscough and an Ann Smith bc1860 not sure where.

Thanks, Mike.

Gael Report 29 Sep 2010 11:18

I gave a quick free search of the 1851 and 1861 for Henry Blackledge to get a connection and only came up with a Henry 1845 in London.

Correct Kath.

They married on the 22nd of September 1846, but I can't find a record of her marrying John Smith c1859

Mike * Report 29 Sep 2010 11:11

Gael,

She used Forshaw again after her first husband died.

Technically, her maiden name was Stephenson as she was born to Harriet Stephenson 2 years before she married Henry Forshaw.

So this is Ann's first marriage:-

Name: Ann Forshaw
Year of Registration: 1846
Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
District: Ormskirk
County: Lancashire
Volume: 21
Page: 428

Spouse William Blackledge

Ann's first marriage was in Ormskirk 1846 to William Blackledge.

Gael Report 29 Sep 2010 11:06

I'm confused too!!

How could her maiden name be Stephenson if she was illegitimate born by her mother Harriet Forshaw?

Mike *

Mike * Report 29 Sep 2010 11:05

1841/51 & 71 she lived at Moss Nook, Burscough

She had a son Henry Blackledge 1847 just before her first husband William died.

All I have on John Smith is that he was born in Burscough c1828

The census you have listed isn't her.

Thanks, Mike.

Dea

Dea Report 29 Sep 2010 11:04

Sorry Kath,

I read it as we are looking for Ann Stephenson, born c 1829, daughter of Harriet (who was a Forshaw, not a Stephenson)

This Ann married a Blackledge, he died and she then had children with John Smith.

One of these children was another Ann, born c 1860.

Am I correct here Mike??

This is why we need some more info from you please?

KathleenBell Report 29 Sep 2010 10:59

I'm even more confused now!!

Are we looking for the lady called Ann who was born about 1860 or are we looking for Harriet born around 1829?

The one posted by Dea is for an Ann Smith with a mother called Ann. I would expect this to e wrong as you give her mother's name as Harriet.

EDIT - I see now. It was Ann born in c.1829.

Probably Smith, but she used Forshaw again after her first husband Blackledge died.
